There are five values on which we base our philosophy:
RESPECT for self and others
RESPONSIBILITY for our actions
HONESTY with others and ourselves
COMMITMENT to mental and physical excellence
CONCERN FOR OTHERS
When our brains are storming with ideas flashing out as suddenly as lightning bolts, we make sure to remember that we must respect each other, no matter how quixotic another's proposal may be. Without the responsibility of each and every member, things would be neglected and our whole team would fall apart. Honesty also played a big part in our work; true credit would always be given to those who have made any contribution. (The writer of this text assures you that she did not plagiarize a single word of this piece!)
As for being committed, we cannot deny that there were a couple of teammates missing from time to time. We all have a tendency to bite off more than we can chew! Even so, our team leaders were always there; ready to plunge into an abundance of work at any moment's notice. Finally, we were always ready to help someone else because after all, being concerned for others includes noticing when someone is under pressure or in need of help.
Of course, there is not much point in simply understanding our five values without putting them in use in real life. It is important to live them as well, and being part of the robotics team is a great way to apply them in a real-life situation, where we interact with many others, striving for the highest honors and working for the very best results.
We may be a small school (comprised of 424 students, faculty and staff to be exact), but we believe that our values and our ideas are big enough to compensate for our size. After all, our commitment and our creativity is what give us our edge and make us remarkable. |
